		<official-title>To make participation in the American Community Survey
		  voluntary, except with respect to certain basic questions, and for other
		  purposes.</official-title>

		<section id="H46C73ED5677144B08F64CB07E1198941" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Participation in American
			 Community Survey to be voluntary</header>
			<subsection id="H14F3B00B7F024719855BDD9DE404B0A5"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Except as provided in
			 subsection (b), no criminal penalty shall apply, under section 221 of title 13,
			 United States Code, or any other provision of law, for refusing or willfully
			 neglecting to answer questions in connection with the survey, conducted by the
			 Secretary of Commerce, which is commonly referred to as the <quote>American
			 Community Survey</quote>.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="HD01654321ABD463F8DB2C46A1CC10CD4"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Exceptions</header><text>Nothing
			 in subsection (a) shall—</text>
				<paragraph id="HEBFFC03F380E41FC82C42135B392F54B"><enum>(1)</enum><text>apply in the case
			 of a question that elicits only 1 or more of the items of information described
			 in subsection (c); or</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H2ACE5251BD0644C7ACA95E77FE0CB086"><enum>(2)</enum><text>be considered to
			 waive any penalty imposed by reason of conduct described in section 221(b) of
			 title 13, United States Code.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H74D8EB5DFCBD4380BA7FFBE444AF56D6"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Information
			 described</header><text>The items of information described in this subsection
			 are as follows:</text>
				<paragraph id="H3DC50565EFD541AB8E14A0AE56C71805"><enum>(1)</enum><text>The name of the
			 respondent.</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HC7D681A0909A454C9E19ECC05E7B8CB5"><enum>(2)</enum><text>Contact
			 information for the respondent.</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H017D39C64739473B9E1060D712F2E1FF"><enum>(3)</enum><text>The date of the
			 response.</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HF5E4F3EF05FB4F6DA878F6DE85E3EE43"><enum>(4)</enum><text>The number of
			 people living or staying at the same address.</text>
