    <SUBJECT>Penal provisions under the Federal Land Policy and Management Act.</SUBJECT>

    <P>Under section 303(a) of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976 (43 U.S.C. 1701 <E T="03">et seq.</E>), any person who knowingly and willfully commits an act prohibited under § 4140.1(b) or who knowingly and willfully violates approved special rules and regulations may be brought before a designated U.S. magistrate and is punishable by a fine in accordance with the applicable provisions of Title 18 of the United States Code, or imprisonment for no more than 12 months, or both.</P>
