SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: On February 7, 2008, the Advocates for
Highway and Auto Safety (Advocates) sent a request on behalf of
themselves, Public Citizen, the Truck Safety Coalition, and the
International Brotherhood of Teamsters for an extension of the comment
period in the subject rulemaking proceeding. They stated that the
complexity of the issues involved, including the new analyses provided
in the interim final rule, has required serious evaluation that has
taken up much of its limited staff time. The Advocates requested a 30-
day extension of the comment period which they believe would be in the
public interest and would not prevent the Agency from issuing a final
rule in 2008.
In order to allow petitioners and the general public an opportunity
to provide comprehensive comments on the new analyses included in the
[[Page 9234]]
interim final rule published by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety
Administration on December 17, 2007, the Agency has decided to grant
the petitioner's request to extend the comment period for the
rulemaking by 30 days. The comment period has been extended and
comments must be received on or before March 17, 2008.
Issued: February 13, 2008.
John H. Hill,
Administrator.
