ACTION: Notice and request for comments.

SUMMARY: In accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, this
notice announces the Maritime Administration's (MARAD's) intention to
request extension of approval for three years of a currently approved
information collection.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: Maritime Administration (MARAD).
Title of Collection: Merchant Marine Medals and Awards.
Type of Request: Extension of currently approved information
collection.
OMB Control Number: 2133-0506.
Form Numbers: None.
Expiration Date of Approval: Three years from date of approval by
the Office of Management and Budget.
Summary of Collection of Information: This information collection
of information provides a method of awarding merchant marine medals and
decorations to masters, officers, and crew members of U.S. ships in
recognition of their service in areas of danger during the operations
by the Armed Forces of the United States in World War II, Korea,
Vietnam, and Operation Desert Storm.
Need and Use of the Information: This information is used by MARAD
personnel to process and verify requests for service awards.
Description of Respondents: Master, officers and crew members of
U.S. ships.
Annual Responses: 550 responses.
Annual Burden: 550 hours.

at the top of this document. Written comments may be submitted to the
