Environmental Radiation Protection Standards for Nuclear Power
Operations
AGENCY: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
ACTION: Advance notice of proposed rulemaking; extension of comment
period.

SUMMARY: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is announcing an
extension of the public comment period for the Advance Notice of
Proposed Rulemaking (ANPR) requesting public comment and information on
potential approaches to updating the EPA's ``Environmental Radiation
Protection Standards for Nuclear Power Operations''. The EPA published
the ANPR on February 4, 2014 in the Federal Register, which included a
request for comments on or before June 4, 2014. The purpose of this
action is to extend the public comment period an additional 60 days.
DATES: The comment period for the advanced notice of proposed
rulemaking published on February 4, 2014 (79 FR 6509), is extended.
Written comments must be received on or before August 3, 2014.

1. Tips for Preparing Your Comments. When submitting comments,
remember to:
Identify the rulemaking by docket number, subject heading,
Federal Register date and page number.
Follow directions--the EPA may ask you to respond to
specific questions or organize comments by referencing the chapter
number.
Explain why you agree or disagree; suggest alternatives
and substitute language for your requested changes.
Describe any assumptions and provide any technical
information and/or data that you used.
If you estimate potential costs or burdens, explain how
you arrived at your estimate in sufficient detail to allow it to be
reproduced.
Illustrate your concerns with specific examples and
suggest alternatives.
Explain your views as clearly as possible, avoiding the
use of profanity or personal threats.
Make sure to submit your comments by the comment period
deadline identified.

The EPA has established a docket for this action under Docket ID
No. EPA-HQ-OAR-2013-0689. The EPA has also developed a Web site for the

accessing information related to the notificaiton.
In response to requests for an extension, we are extending the
public comment period for this ANPR through August 3, 2014. This
extension will provide the public additional time to provide comment on
updating this standard.
