DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
Submission for OMB Review; Comment Request
The Department of Commerce will submit to the Office of Management
and Budget (OMB) for clearance the following proposal for collection of
information under the provisions of the Paperwork Reduction Act (44
U.S.C. Chapter 35).
Agency: National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
Title: Reporting Requirements for the Ocean Salmon Fishery off the
Coasts of Washington, Oregon, and California.
OMB Control Number: 0648-0433.
Form Number(s): None.
Type of Request: Regular (extension of a currently approved
information collection).
Number of Respondents: 40.
Average Hours per Response: 15 minutes.
Burden Hours: 10.
Needs and Uses: Based on the management regime specified each year,
designated regulatory areas in the commercial ocean salmon fishery off
the coasts of Washington, Oregon, and California may be managed by
numerical quotas. To accurately assess catches relative to quota
attainment during the fishing season, catch data by regulatory area
must be collected in a timely manner. Requirements to land salmon
within specific time frames and in specific areas may be implemented in
the preseason regulations to aid in timely and accurate catch
accounting for a regulatory area. State landing systems normally gather
the data at the time of landing. If unsafe weather conditions or
mechanical problems prevent compliance with landing requirements,
fishermen need an alternative to allow for a safe response. Fishermen
would be exempt from landing requirements if the appropriate
notifications are made to provide the name of the vessel, the port
where delivery will be made, the approximate amount of salmon (by
species) on board, and the estimated time of arrival.
Affected Public: Business or other for-profit organizations;
individuals or households.
Frequency: On occasion.
Respondent's Obligation: Mandatory.
This information collection request may be viewed at reginfo.gov.
Follow the instructions to view Department of Commerce collections
currently under review by OMB. Written comments and recommendations for
the proposed information collection should be sent within 30 days of
publication of this notice to [email protected] or fax to
(202) 395-5806.
Dated: June 12, 2017.
Sarah Brabson,
NOAA PRA Clearance Officer.
