Sample Searches and URLs for Code of Federal Regulations

The Code of Federal Regulations can be searched using the Simple Search Box and the Advanced Search page. Once results are displayed, you can narrow your search results by clicking on links in the Narrow Your Search panel on the left hand side of the page. The sections under Narrow Your Search correspond to the metadata available for the documents. Code of Federal Regulations specific links to narrow your search results will be displayed after you click on Code of Federal Regulations under the Collection category.

 

Retrieve by Citation search can be used to retrieve a single Code of Federal Regulations document in PDF format if you know the Volume and Page of the document. The Code of Federal Regulations can also be browsed in the Browse Government Publications area.

 

The following sections give examples of searches and that you may want to use for the Code of Federal Regulations collection in FDsys.

 

Searching Code of Federal Regulations by Citation

These examples will search for 7 CFR 1951.7 from 2009.

 

Using the Simple Search Box, enter one of the following

  • collection:cfr citation:"7 CFR 1951.7" publishdate:2009

  • collection:cfr and citation:"7 CFR 1951.7" and publishdate:2009

 

Using the Advanced Search page,

  • Select Code of Federal Regulations from Available Collections

  • Click Add to add Code of Federal Regulations to the Selected Collections box

  • Select Citation from Search in

  • Enter ”r;7 CFR 1951.7" in the textbox marked for

 

Using the Retrieve by Citation page,

  • Select Code of Federal Regulations from Collections pull down menu

  • Select 2009 from Year pull down menu

  • Select 7 from the Title pull down menu

  • Enter 1951.7 in the Section box

 

Searching Code of Federal Regulations by Title Number

These examples will search for CFR documents from Title 7.

 

Using the Simple Search Box, enter one of the following

  • Select Code of Federal Regulations from Available Collections

These examples will search for CFR documents from Title 7, Part 1951.

 

Using the Simple Search Box, enter one of the following

Using the Advanced Search page,

  • Select Code of Federal Regulations from Available Collections

Search Code of Federal Regulations by Keyword

These examples will search for Code of Federal Regulations documents with emissions in the full text of the publication.

 

Using the Simple Search Box, enter the following:

  • emissions collection:cfr

  • emissions and collection:cfr

 

Using the Advanced Search page,

  • Select Code of Federal Regulations from Available Collections

  • Click Add to add Code of Federal Regulations to the Selected Collections box

  • Select Full Text of Publications and Metadata from Search in: pull down menu

Sample Code of Federal Regulations URLs

FDsys uses two key pieces of information to construct predictable URLs to documents and the More Information pages. The Granule ID for the Code of Federal Regulations is used to identify the specific section, part, subpart, chapter, or subchapter within a volume of the publication and the Package ID  is used to identify an individual volume of the publication.
