Sample Searches and URLs for History of Bills

The government publications in FDsys can be searched using the Simple Search Box and the Advanced Search page. Once results are displayed, you can narrow your search results by clicking on links in the Narrow Your Search panel on the left hand side of the page. The sections under Narrow Your Search correspond to the metadata available for the documents. Collection specific links to narrow your search results will be displayed after you click on one of the collection under the Collection category.

The collections can also be browsed in the Browse Government Publications area.

The following sections give examples of searches that you may want to use for the History of Bills collection in FDsys.

Search History of Bills by Congress Number and Chamber

These examples will search for histories of bills from the House of Representatives from the 110th congress.

Using the Simple Search Box, enter one of the following

collection:hob congress:110 chamber:house
collection:hob and congress:110 and chamber:house

Using the Advanced Search page,

Select History of Bills from Available Collections in the box
Click Add to add History of Bills to the Selected Collections box
Select “Congress Number” under Search In
Enter 110 in textbox marked for
Click on Add Search Criteria
Select Chamber under Search In
Select house in textbox marked for

Search History of Bills by Keywords

These examples will search for histories of bills with the keywords “national” and “parks.”

Using the Simple Search Box, enter one of the following

national parks collection:hob
national and parks and collection:hob

Using the Advanced Search page,

Select History of Bills from Available Collections in the box
Click Add to add History of Bills to the Selected Collections box
Select Full-Text of Publications and Metadata under Search In
Enter national parks in textbox marked for

Search History of Bills by Bill Number

These examples will search for histories of bills with H.R. 2070 as the bill number.

These examples will search for histories of bills with Public Law 100-103 as the public law number.

These examples will search for histories of bills with Boxer as the sponsor.

Sample History of Bills URLs

FDsys uses two key pieces of information to construct predictable URLs to documents and the More Information pages. The Granule ID for the History of Bills is used to identify the specific document within an issue of the publication and the Package ID is used to identify an entire issue of the publication.
