Acting Managing Director

As the Acting Managing Director of Plant Operations, Olivier A. Girod oversees all legislative printing services for Congress, including overnight production of the Congressional Record, bills, reports, hearings, and other congressional documents for the U.S. Government Printing Office. Girod also directs essential executive branch printing services, including the daily Federal Register, the Code of Federal Regulations, and U.S. Passports. This business unit includes more than 1,200 employees, including the agency's facilities division.

Biography

Girod joined GPO as Deputy Managing Director of Plant Operations in 2004, after a decade with The Washington Post Company.While at The Washington Post, Girod held a variety of technical, program and operations management positions. In these roles, he implemented engineering tools and techniques for improving the performance of manufacturing processes and led initiatives for supporting new business strategies. During his time with The Washington Post, Girod managed an around the clock multimillion dollar manufacturing operation with 500 employees. Under his leadership, the organization experienced numerous process improvements, significantly enhanced its efficiency and consistently met or surpassed goals. Previously, he worked in the aerospace and nuclear industries.

Girod graduated from ENSAM (Paris, France) with a degree in mechanical engineering. He received his M.S. in industrial engineering from Texas Tech and a Ph.D. in industrial and systems engineering from Virginia Tech. He completed executive programs at the Center for Creative Leadership and Georgetown University. A registered Professional Engineer (Virginia), he is a senior member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers and American Society for Quality. In 2003, Girod and his family established an excellence endowment fund in support of the Virginia Tech College of Engineering.
