Mr. President, today the Senate will immediately begin 1 hour of debate relating to the cloture motion to the McCain amendment to the Y2K legislation. At approximately 10:30 a.m., following that debate, the Senate will proceed to a cloture vote on the pending McCain amendment. As a reminder, by a previous agreement, second-degree amendments to the McCain amendment must be filed by 10 a.m. today. Following the cloture vote, the Senate may continue debate on the Y2K bill, the lockbox issue, or any other legislative or executive items cleared for action. Also, as a further reminder, a cloture motion was filed on Wednesday to the pending amendment to S. 557 regarding the Social Security lockbox legislation. That vote will take place on Friday at a time to be determined by the two leaders. For the remainder of the week, it is possible that the Senate may begin debate on the situation in Kosovo.
