RES. 149 Designating July 4, 1993, through July 10, 1993, as ``Buy American Week''. _______________________________________________________________________ IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES March 11, 1993 Mr. Goodling (for himself and Mr. Traficant) introduced the following joint resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Post Office and Civil Service _______________________________________________________________________ JOINT RESOLUTION Designating July 4, 1993, through July 10, 1993, as ``Buy American Week''. Whereas July 4, 1776, marks the birth of the United States as an independent country, and July 4, 1993, should mark the beginning of a week celebrating the rebirth of American-made products and services; Whereas the American entrepreneurial spirit, free enterprise, open competition, and ingenuity have made the United States a global leader in the advancement of technology; Whereas American workers produce some of the highest quality products and provide some of the highest quality services in the world, and these American-made products are in such high demand that other countries go to extraordinary lengths to emulate them; Whereas American businesses should rediscover the value of American-made products by investment in American businesses, services, and opportunities, in order to bring about new growth in jobs for American workers; and Whereas American consumers should help to celebrate the quality of products and services provided by American businesses by purchasing genuine ``Made in the USA'' products during the week beginning July 4, 1993: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That July 4, 1993, through July 10, 1993, is designated as ``Buy American Week''. The President is authorized and requested to issue a proclamation calling upon the people of the United States to observe the day with appropriate ceremonies and activities. <all>
