RES. 164 Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to provide a limitation on the terms of United States Senators and Representatives. _______________________________________________________________________ IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES March 24, 1993 Mr. Shepherd introduced the following joint resolution; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary _______________________________________________________________________ JOINT RESOLUTION Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to provide a limitation on the terms of United States Senators and Representatives. Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, (two-thirds of each House concurring therein), That the following article is proposed as an amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which shall be valid to all intents and purposes as part of the Constitution when ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States within seven years after the date of its submission for ratification: ``Article -- ``Section 1. No person shall serve in the United States Congress more than two full terms as a Senator or more than six full terms as a Representative. ``Section 2. Section 1 shall take effect at the beginning of the first even-numbered year that begins after the date of the adoption of this article of amendment. For the purposes of that section, service before that section takes effect shall not be included in computing the terms a person has served.''. <all>
