R. 1352 To amend the National Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching Policy Act of 1977 to extend eligibility to junior and community colleges for grants and fellowships for food and agricultural sciences education. _______________________________________________________________________ IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES March 16, 1993 Mr. Hughes introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Agriculture _______________________________________________________________________ A BILL To amend the National Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching Policy Act of 1977 to extend eligibility to junior and community colleges for grants and fellowships for food and agricultural sciences education. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. ELIGIBILITY FOR GRANTS AND FELLOWSHIPS FOR FOOD AND AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES EDUCATION. Section 1417 of the National Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching Policy Act of 1977 (7 U.S.C. 3152) is amended by adding at the end the following new subsection: ``(j) Definitions.--For purposes of this section: ``(1) The terms `college' and `university' include a junior or community college. ``(2) The term `junior or community college' means an educational institution that-- ``(A) admits as regular students persons who are beyond the age of compulsory school attendance in the State in which the institution is located and who have the ability to benefit from the training offered by the institution; ``(B) does not provide an educational program for which it awards a bachelor's degree (or an equivalent degree); and ``(C) provides an educational program of not less than 2 years that is acceptable for full credit toward such a degree.''. <all>
