                  MEASURE READ THE FIRST TIME--S. 2556

  Mr. BROWN. Mr. President, I understand that S. 2556, introduced 
earlier today by Senator Reid, the majority leader, is at the desk, and 
I ask for its first reading.
  The PRESIDING OFFICER. The clerk will read the title of the bill.
  The legislative clerk read as follows:

       A bill (S. 2556) to extend the provisions of the Protect 
     America Act of 2007 for an additional 30 days.

  Mr. BROWN. Mr. President, I now ask for its second reading and object 
to my own request.
  The PRESIDING OFFICER. Objection is heard.
  The bill will receive its second reading on the next legislative day.
  Mr. BROWN. Mr. President, I suggest the absence of a quorum.
  The PRESIDING OFFICER. The clerk will call the roll.
  The legislative clerk proceeded to call the roll.
