[Congressional Record (Bound Edition), Volume 154 (2008), Part 11] [Extensions of Remarks] [Page 15738] [From the U.S. Government Publishing Office, www.gpo.gov]TRIBUTE TO SHARON ALBAN ______ HON. TOM LATHAM of iowa in the house of representatives Tuesday, July 22, 2008 Mr. LATHAM. Madam Speaker, I rise today to recognize and congratulate Sharon Alban, co-publisher of the Ogden Reporter, for earning the Distinguished Service Award at the annual Iowa Newspaper Association's convention. The Distinguished Service Award is the most prestigious honor given by the Iowa Newspaper Association, and former recipients of the award select the winner. Excellence runs in Sharon's household as her husband Gary won the award in 2005. In addition to Sharon's award, the Ogden Reporter was awarded three press awards in the Iowa Newspaper Foundation's annual Better Newspaper Contests. In 1966, Gary and Sharon bought the Ogden Reporter. Sharon began on the streets selling ads. She found a niche in sales in addition to her day-to-day work with the newspaper. In addition to Sharon's diligent work with the newspaper, she is very active in her church and is involved in many community activities and events. I know that my colleagues in the United States Congress join me in commending Sharon Alban for her leadership and dedication to representing Iowa in the Ogden Reporter. I consider it an honor to represent Sharon and her husband Gary in Congress, and I wish them the best in their future endeavors. ____________________
