[Congressional Record (Bound Edition), Volume 154 (2008), Part 7] [Extensions of Remarks] [Pages 10116-10117] [From the U.S. Government Publishing Office, www.gpo.gov]HONORING EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK ______ HON. ALBIO SIRES of new jersy in the house of representatives Tuesday, May 20, 2008 Mr. SIRES. Madam Speaker, I rise today in honor of Emergency Medical Services Week which takes place the week of May 18 thru May 24, 2008. Emergency medical services are a vital public service, and the members of emergency medical service teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Access to quality emergency care is not only a necessity but dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury. The emergency medical services system consists of emergency physicians, emergency nurses, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters, educators, and administrators. The members of the emergency medical services teams, whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized [[Page 10117]] training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills. It is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of emergency medical service providers by designating Emergency Medical Services Week. Please join me in honoring Extraordinary People, Extraordinary Service and may we all continue to encourage our communities to observe this week with appropriate programs, ceremonies and activities. ____________________
