ACTION: Notice. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY: EPA has received from the Department of Plant Pathology, Cornell University, Geneva Campus, a notification of intent to conduct small-scale field testing on grape vines in the State of New York of a strain of Agrobacterium vitus which was originally isolated in South Africa. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: A notification of intent to conduct small- scale field testing pursuant to the EPA's ``Statement of Policy; Microbial Products Subject to the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act and the Toxic Substances Control Act'' of June 26, 1986 (51 FR 23313), was received on December 2, 1993, from Cornell University, Department of Plant Pathology, New York State Agricultural Experiment Station, Geneva, NY 14456-0462. The purpose of the proposed testing is to evaluate the efficacy of a nonindigenous strain of Agrobacterium vitus originally isolated in South Africa for the control of crown gall on grape vines. This strain is a nonpathogenic strain of a species of bacteria which is commonly detected in vinyards worldwide.
