Procedure for Evaluating Water Resource Projects

AGENCY: Forest Service, USDA.

ACTION: Notice of availability of Agency directive.

SUMMARY: The Forest Service has revised its direction to employees on 
procedures for evaluating water resource projects to meet the 
requirements of Section 7 of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of October 
2, 1968. The direction is contained in Chapter 2350 of the Forest 
Service Manual, Amendment No. 2300-94-4 effective July 8, 1994. The 
amendment sets out a uniform procedure to determine whether or not 
proposed water resource projects are permissible under Section 7 of the 
Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. Specific decision criteria are identified. 
The procedure applies to congressionally designated rivers, 
congressionally designated study rivers, rivers identified for study 
through land management planning, and to proposed activities outside a 
designated or study river corridor.
