SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: Authority: Executive Order 11651 of March 3, 1972, as amended; section 204 of the Agricultural Act of 1956, as amended (7 U.S.C. 1854). The amount of special shift previously applied to Categories 340/ 640 is being reduced and the limit for Category 840 is being increased (see 59 FR 67702, published on December 30, 1994). A description of the textile and apparel categories in terms of HTS numbers is available in the CORRELATION: Textile and Apparel Categories with the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (see [[Page 9671]] Federal Register notice 59 FR 65531, published on December 20, 1994). Also see 59 FR 14152, published on March 25, 1994. The letter to the Commissioner of Customs and the actions taken pursuant to it are not designed to implement all of the provisions of the Uruguay Round Agreement on Textiles and Clothing and the bilateral agreement, but are designed to assist only in the implementation of certain of their provisions. Dear Commissioner: This directive amends, but does not cancel, the directive issued to you on March 22, 1994, by the Chairman, Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements. That directive concerns imports of certain cotton, wool and man-made fiber textile products and silk blend and other vegetable fiber apparel, produced or manufactured in Sri Lanka and exported during the period which began on January 1, 1994 and extends through June 30, 1995. Effective on February 15, 1995, you are directed to adjust the limits for the following categories, pursuant to the provisions of the Uruguay Round Agreement on Textiles and Clothing and the current bilateral agreement between the Governments of the United States and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Category Adjusted eighteen-month limit\1\ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 340/640............................ 1,765,547 dozen of which not more than 711,537 dozen shall be in Categories 340-Y/640-Y\2\. 840................................ 252,257 dozen. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ \1\The limits have not been adjusted to account for any imports exported after December 31, 1993. \2\Category 340-Y: only HTS numbers 6205.20.2015, 6205.20.2020, 6205.20.2046, 6205.20.2050 and 6205.20.2060; Category 640-Y: only HTS numbers 6205.30.2010, 6205.30.2020, 6205.30.2050 and 6205.30.2060.
