ACTION: Public hearings; request for comments. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY: The Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council (Council) will hold public hearings to allow for input on Supplement 1 to Amendment 5 to the Fishery Management Plan for the Atlantic Mackerel, Squid, and Butterfish Fishery. The Council will also accept comments prepared for Amendment 7 for inclusion in the Environmental Impact Statement on the matters contained in Supplement 1. DATES: Written comments must be received by May 1, 1995. The hearings are scheduled as follows: 1. April 18, 1995, 7 p.m., Virginia Beach, VA; 2. April 24, 1995, 7 p.m., Galilee, RI; 3. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The purpose of these supplementary hearings is to obtain public input on several changes to Amendment 5 that were not included in the original hearing draft. These changes involve the provisions of the moratorium on entry into the Illex fishery, the provisions of the moratorium on entry into the Loligo and butterfish fisheries, the provisions of the minimum net mesh in the Loligo fishery, a provision that vessel owners/operators and dealers could lose their permits, if they falsified data to qualify for a moratorium permit, and a provision that only vessels with moratorium permits could transfer squid and butterfish at sea. These hearings are physically accessible to people with disabilities. Requests for sign language interpretation or other auxiliary aids should be directed to the Council office (see ADDRESSES).
