The list of outlets produced from the survey serves as a sampling frame from which the Bureau of Labor Statistics selects places to price items in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) market basket. The 1995-1996 CPP/CATI survey data are necessary to obtain a list of outlets for new and redefined items that will be introduced to the CPI market basket for the 1998 revised index. Theresa M.
