This patent has been assigned to the United States Government as represented by the Secretary of the Army. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The invention relates to recombinant, attenuated Japanese encephalitis viruses that contain a single amino acid mutation in the envelop protein. In particular, the invention is directed to isolated DNA molecules encoding the genomes of such mutant Japanese encephalitis viruses. The invention is also directed to methods for preparing mutant Japanese encephalitis viruses from cultured animal cells.
