In January, 1996, the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Kennebec River Basin Hydroelectric Projects was distributed to all parties on the Commission's mailing list and a notice of availability was published in the Federal Register. The DEIS evaluates the environmental consequences of the proposed relicensing of eleven hydroelectric projects within the Kennebec River Basin. The projects are located on the Kennebec River, Moxie Stream, Sandy River, Sebasticook River, Messalonskee Stream in Central Maine. Three public meetings have been scheduled to be held in Bingham and Augusta, Maine for the purpose of allowing Commission Staff to present the major DEIS findings and recommendations. Interested parties will have an opportunity to give oral comment on the DEIS for the Commission's public record. Comments will be recorded by a court reporter. Individuals will be given up to five minutes each to present their views on the DEIS. Meeting Dates, Times and Locations Tuesday, February 13, from 7 p.m.-11 p.m. Location: Bingham, ME; Quimby Elementary School. Directions: From Bingham Town Center go \1/2\ mile south on Route 201; school is on the East side of the road. Wednesday, February 14, from 12:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. Location: Augusta, ME; Augusta Civic Center. Directions: From the Maine Turnpike (Interstate 95) take Exit 31 onto Civic Center Drive; proceed south \1/2\ mile, turn right on Community Drive to Civic Center. Wednesday, February 14, from 7 p.m.-11 p.m. Location: Augusta, ME; Augusta Civic Center. Comments may also be submitted in writing, addressed to Lois D. Cashell, Secretary, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, 888 First Street NE., Washington, DC 20426. Reference should be clearly made to the Kennebec River Basin DEIS and the specific project(s) name and project(s) number for which comments are being provided.
