ACTION: Notice of availability on the draft environmental impact statement/draft environmental impact report DES 96 05. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Summary: Pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969 (as amended) and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) and the Sacramento Metropolitan Water Authority (SMWA) as lead agencies have prepared a joint draft environmental impact statement/draft environmental impact report (DEIS/ DEIR) for the American River Water Resources Investigation (ARWRI). The proposed alternatives provide a means of action through which the water needs of the five county area (El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, and Sutter) are met. The proposed alternatives exercise the provisions of several federal laws as applicable to Reclamation. Public hearings will be held in four sessions to receive written or verbal comments on the DEIS/DEIR from interested organizations and individuals on the environmental impacts of the proposal. Notice of the hearings will appear at a future date. DATES: A 90-day public review period commences with the publication of this notice. Written comments on the DEIS/DEIR are to be submitted to the Project Manager, Bureau of Reclamation.
