ACTION: Notice of receipt of application. The following applicant has applied for a permit to conduct certain activities with endangered species. This notice is provided pursuant to section 10(c) of the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended (16 U.S.C. 1531, et seq.). PRT-810834 Applicant: Dr. Francesca Cuthbert, University of Minnesota, St. Paul, Minnesota. The applicant requests a permit to take (capture and release, handle, temporarily hold, salvage abandoned eggs and chicks) Piping Plover (Charadrius melodus) in Michigan. The permit is sought for banding of adults and juveniles, habitat use study, salvage of abandoned eggs and chicks for captive propagation, rearing of chicks, and release into the wild. Proposed activities will aid in recovery of the species by providing demographic, dispersal, and site fidelity data that will assist in recovery efforts for this population. Salvaging of eggs and chicks may increase recruitment to the Great Lakes nesting population.
