DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE

Notice Pursuant to the National Cooperative Research and
Production Act of 1993; Cigarette Ignition Propensity Joint Venture

Notice is hereby given that, on May 4, 1995, pursuant to Section
6(a) of the National Cooperative Research and Production Act of 1993,
15 U.S.C. 4301 et seq. (``the Act''), the Cigarette Ignition Propensity
Joint Venture (``the Joint Venture'') has filed written notifications
simultaneously with the Attorney General and the Federal Trade
Commission disclosing a change in its membership. The notifications
were filed for the purpose of maintaining the application of the Act to
the Joint Venture. Specifically, the American Tobacco Company has
merged into the Brown Williamson Tobacco Corporation, and is no longer
a member of the Joint Venture. In addition, the Joint Venture has
adopted an Amendment to its initial Joint Research and Development
Agreement; that Amendment extends the existence of the Joint Venture
until September 30, 1996.
No other changes have been made in either the membership or planned
activity of the group research project. The Joint Venture intends to
file additional written notifications disclosing all changes in
membership.
On January 7, 1991, the Joint Venture filed its original
notification pursuant to Section 6(a) of the Act. The Department of
Justice published a notice in the Federal Register pursuant to Section
6(b) of the Act on February 4, 1991 (56 FR 4301).
Constance K. Robinson,
Director of Operations, Antitrust Division.
