Authority

    This action is authorized under the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe 
Streets Act of 1968, Secs. 201-03, as amended, 42 U.S.C. 3721-23 
(1994).

Background

    The National Institute of Justice is soliciting proposals for the 
evaluation of arrest policies programs funded by the Office of Justice 
Programs in 1996 under the Violence Against Women Act, Title IV of the 
Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994. The request 
responds to the need for research to assess the effectiveness of arrest 
in the context of a systemwide, coordinated approach to domestic 
violence. Interested organizations should call the National Criminal 
Justice Reference Service (NCJRS) at 1-800-851-3420 to obtain a copy of 
``Solicitation for Evaluation of Arrest Policies Program'' (refer to 
document no. SL000175). The solicitation is available electronically 
via the NCJRS Bulletin Board, which can be accessed via Internet.
