ACTION: Notice. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY: As part of its continuing effort to reduce paperwork and respondent burden, Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) invites the general public and other Federal agencies to comment on this information collection. This request for comment is being made pursuant to the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 (Public Law 104-13; 44 U.S.C. 3506(c)(2)(A)). Comments should address the accuracy of the burden estimates and ways to minimize the burden including the use of automated collection techniques or the use of other forms of information technology, as well as other relevant aspects of the information collection. Title and Form Number: Application for Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance (Under Provisions of Chapter 35, Title 38, U.S.C.), VA Form 22-5490. Type of Review: Extension of a currently approved collection. Need and Uses: The form serves as an application for Dependents' Educational Assistance (DEA). The information collection is necessary for the VA to determine the eligibility of a veteran's or serviceperson's children, spouse or surviving spouse to DEA. Current Actions: Spouses, surviving spouses, and children of veterans must submit evidence to establish eligibility and entitlement to DEA under Title 38, U.S.C., 3513. The VA uses the information to determine if an individual claimant qualifies for DEA benefits. Affected Public: Individuals or households. Estimated Annual Burden: 8,700 hours. Estimated Average Burden Per Respondent: 30 minutes. Frequency of Response: Once--Initial Application. Estimated Number of Respondents: 17,400.
