New England Fishery Management Council; Meeting

AGENCY: National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), National Oceanic and 
Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Commerce.

ACTION: Public meeting.

SUMMARY: The New England Fishery Management Council (Council) will hold 
a special public meeting to consider actions affecting New England 
fisheries in the exclusive economic zone.

DATES: The meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 1997, at 9:30 a.m.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: On May 6, 1997, the Council will convene a 
special meeting specifically to develop comments on the Large Whale 
Take Reduction Plan regulations recently proposed by NMFS. Prior to 
this agenda item, the Council intends to initiate action on Framework 
Adjustment 24 to the Northeast Multispecies Fishery Management Plan 
under the framework for abbreviated rulemaking procedure contained in 
50 CFR 648.90. The action would exempt gillnet vessels in the trip boat 
category from the requirement to bring their monkfish gillnets to port 
when fishing under a days-at-sea allocation.
