DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY

Federal Energy Regulatory Commission

Georgia Power Company; Notice of Availability of Environmental
Assessment

May 11, 1998.
A environmental assessment (EA) is available for public review. The
EA was prepared for an application filed by Georgia Power Company,
licensee for the Sinclair Hydroelectric Project. In its application,
the licensee requests Commission approval to grant a permit to a
private developer to construct a small, commercial marina on Lake
Sinclair, the project reservoir. The proposed marina would be located
near the confluence of Sandy Run Creek and the Oconee River in Hancock
County, Georgia.
Based on the environmental analyses presented in the EA, the
Commission's staff finds that, with the developer's proposed mitigative
measures, the marina development would not be a major federal action
significantly affecting the quality of the human environment.
The EA was written by staff in the Office of Hydropower Licensing,
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Copies of the EA may be obtained
by calling the Commission's public reference room at (202) 208-1371.
David P. Boergers,
Acting Secretary.
