Notice Pursuant to the National Cooperative Research and
Production Act of 1993--Intelligent Maintenance Advisor for Turbine
Engines (IMATE)

Notice is hereby given that, on March 2, 1998, pursuant to Section
6(a) of the National Cooperative Research and Production Act of 1993,
15 U.S.C. 4301 et seq. (``the Act''), GE Aircraft Engines (GEAE) has
filed written notifications simultaneously with the Attorney General
and the Federal Trade Commission disclosing (1) the identities of the
parties and (2) the nature and objectives of the venture. The
notifications were filed for the purpose of invoking the Act's
provisions limiting the recovery of antitrust plaintiffs to actual
damages under specified circumstances. Pursuant to Section 6(b) of the
Act, the identities of the parties are General Electric Company, acting
by and through GEAE, Cincinnati, OH; General Electric's Corporate
Research and Development Division, Schenectady, NY; Lockhead Martin
Company, Bethesda, MD, acting by and through its Control Systems
Division, Johnson City, NY; Oceana Sensor Technologies, Inc., Virginia
Beach, VA; Applied Research Laboratory of Penn State University, State
College, PA. The nature and objectives of the venture are to implement
Cooperative Agreement No. MDA972-98-3-002, sponsored by the Defense
Advanced Research Projects Agency. The technical objective of this
program is to design and test a condition-based intelligent maintenance
advisor for turbine engines in order to reduce cost of service, improve
maintenance planning, and minimize unnecessary component removals. In
addition, the IMATE program will provide the technologies needed for
developing the global, propulsion asset-management infrastructures.

Director of Operations, Antitrust Division.
