Social Security: Continuing Disability Review Process Improved, But More Targeted Reviews Needed
GAO is encouraged by the Social Security Administration's (SSA) efforts
to make the continuing disability review process more efficient and
cost-effective through the use of computer profiling and beneficiary
self-reported data. GAO is concerned, however, that SSA continues to do
too few continuing disability reviews, particularly for beneficiaries
with the greatest likelihood of being removed from the disability rolls.
In GAO's view, finding ways to provide SSA with more money to do the
reviews is worthwhile.
