GPO was honored by Government Security News at the annual Homeland Security Awards. GPO won in the 'Most Effective Border Security Program, Project or Agency' category for its design, production and personalization of the Trusted Traveler Program cards for the Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection.

Employees at the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) print the Federal Register on 100% recycled paper in 2009. Public Printer Bob Tapella presents Ray Mosley, the Director of the Federal Register, with one of the first copies. Both tour GPO's plant while production of the publication was being produced by GPO employees.

On October 2, 2009, Public Printer Bob Tapella presents Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi with the first Congressional Record printed on 100 percent recycled paper at the Speaker's Office. Media from around the world covered this historic event for the U.S. Congress and GPO.

GPO employees Laurie Ridgley and Sabrina Applewhite present Public Printer Bob Tapella a copy of the Stimulus Bill, which was the first bill of the 111th Congress. The bill was about 1,500 pages in length, double the size of a standard large bill. The bill came to GPO's Plant around 2:30 a.m. and GPO employees made the first delivery to Congress at 1 p.m.

The U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) is designing, printing, encoding, personalizing and mailing Trusted Traveler Program cards (NEXUS, SENTRI and FAST) for the Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection (CBP). These cards give the bearer faster service in crossing America's northern and southern borders.

The event took place on November 6, 2007 in Washington D.C. Nancy Erickson, Secretary of the U.S. Senate, administered the oath of office. Tapella's mother, Bernadette Tapella, is holding the Bible.
