Acting Chief Human Capital Officer


As the Acting Chief Human Capital Officer, Stewart Lane plans and implements the human resources systems and oversees the policies and procedures that guide GPO’s innovative human resources operation — policies designed specifically to strike a balance of honoring the culture and values of GPO’s rich history while positioning the Agency to meet the evolving human capital demands of the future. Lane assumed the role of Acting Chief Human Capital Officer in April 2023.

Biography

Lane brings three decades of publishing and workforce development experience to GPO. Prior to assuming the role of Acting Chief Human Capital Officer, Lane served as GPO’s Chief of Workforce Development, Education & Training. In this capacity, he led a team of training professionals that plan, promote, and deliver challenging workforce development opportunities that increase GPO’s competitiveness and teammate engagement.

Lane joined GPO in 2010 and has held various training, management and leadership positions in Plant Operations and in Human Capital. After working four years in GPO Plant Operations in production and as a technical skills and apprenticeship program trainer for the printing crafts, Lane joined the training department as the Leadership Development Program Manager in 2014 and taught GPO’s award-winning leadership development program. In 2017 the GPO LEAD Program won the prestigious W. Edwards Deming Award for exceptional training in the Federal Government for increasing employee engagement. In addition, Lane is a certified facilitator for many professional assessment tools and topics, and has developed, implemented, and facilitated Agency training programs and courses on personal leadership, professional development, team building, and supervisor leadership.

Prior to joining the GPO printing team in 2010, Lane worked as a prepress manager and operator in the commercial printing trade in the DC metro area for 24 years.
