Once enrolled each attendee receives the format/agenda prior to their training session start date. All Institute courses have a minimum enrollment requirement in order to be offered, therefore all course offering dates are subject to change. The Institute is also prepared to offer a customized "online" training experience, for interested customer agencies, contact the Institute for more information.
Adobe Bridge for Federal Publishers (New!) (Online Live only)
This half-day course shows how to maximize your use of Adobe Bridge’s tools. Adobe Bridge is the free asset management program that is installed with most of Adobe’s other software such as InDesign and Photoshop. Federal publishers will learn how to manage and view their creative assets including graphics files, PDFs, Office documents, photographs, videos, and more. Topics include:
This seminar is designed for anyone who uses Adobe Creative Suite software, including: designers, desktop publishers, production managers, managing editors, website developers, visual information specialists, audio/visual specialists, and photographers.
Sec. 508 Compliance with Adobe InDesign and Acrobat (Online Live) more details
This intermediate-level class teaches how to create InDesign layouts that produce Sec. 508-compliant PDFs for websites, in addition to press-quality PDFs for print. Topics include: Sec. 508 standards and guidelines for federal documents, InDesign’s tools for accessibility, controlling accessibility in the INDD layout, exporting Sec. 508-compliant PDFs, checking and testing the PDFs for compliance, and advanced InDesign features. These accessibility techniques can also prepare InDesign files for web publishing, content management systems (CMS), and EPUBs as well as improve search engine optimization (SEO).
Prerequisite: Basic and/or Intermediate Adobe InDesign classes, or equivalent work experience. The class is for experienced publishers seeking to master Sec. 508 compliance of PDFs created from InDesign. Students should be comfortable creating basic documents (newsletters, brochures, reports) from InDesign before taking this class.
Sec. 508-Compliant Fillable Forms (Online Live) more details
This intermediate-level class teaches how to create accessible PDF forms with Adobe Acrobat Pro. (It does not cover Adobe LiveCycle Designer, MS Word, or Adobe InDesign). Topics include: Creating accessible forms with Acrobat’s form tools, Sec. 508 guidelines for compliant forms, testing and evaluating forms for compliance, remediating existing PDF forms, and design guidelines to improve usability and accessibility.
Prerequisites: Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and PDFs; coursework or equivalent experience in accessible Word, PDF, or InDesign documents is very helpful.
508 Compliance using Adobe Acrobat with MS Word (Online Live) more details
Learn how to make Sec. 508-compliant Word documents and PDFs in this 3-day intensive workshop. Topics include: Understanding Sec. 508 standards and guidelines for federal documents, creating Word source documents that are compliant, exporting compliant PDFs, and remediating existing PDFs. This foundation class on how to create accessible files is designed for writers, editors, web masters, production managers, and graphic designers.
Intermediate InDesign for Federal Publishers (Long Documents)
This course focuses on critical, advanced features for long documents: tables, multi-chapter books, pagination, indexes, footnotes, tables of content, templates, cover composition, and advanced stylesheet controls. By the end of class, you will have completed a multi-chapter book with the above features. This foundation course prepares students for future classes in Section 508 accessibility, EPUBs, and other digital media from InDesign.
Prerequisites: Adobe InDesign Basics or similar course or work experience. This is an intermediate-level class only for experienced InDesign users who are able to create a basic document — including master pages, paragraph styles, and character styles — from scratch.
