GPO’S General Counsel Retires After Four Decades of Service

WASHINGTON - U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) Director Davita Vance-Cooks announces the retirement of General Counsel Drew Spalding. A career Federal attorney, Spalding joined GPO’s Office of General Counsel in 1975. Over the years he has held the positions of Attorney-Advisor, Associate General Counsel, Ethics Counselor, and Deputy General Counsel, becoming the agency’s General Counsel in 2011. Spalding has been part of agency legal and ethical matters for 41-years.

Spalding started his Federal career as a staff member at the Presidential Clemency Board and then the Office of the U.S. Pardon Attorney in the Department of Justice. Prior to graduating from law school, Spalding was a commissioned First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He is a graduate of Bowdoin College and the Boston University Law School.

“GPO is indebted to Drew for his years of service and representing the agency in legal matters since the 1970s,” said GPO Director Davita Vance-Cooks. “All of us at GPO wish him the best in retirement.”
