GPO Director Names New Members to the Depository Library Council

WASHINGTON —U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) Director Hugh Halpern announces the appointment of five new members to the Depository Library Council (DLC). DLC members advise the GPO Director on policy matters relating to the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP). In addition to experience working in various types of libraries, the new DLC members have experience with and knowledge of current developments in the fields of library science and U.S. Government information. With the increasing dissemination of information in electronic formats, these new members will help position the DLC and the FDLP for the GPO’s ongoing mission of Keeping America Informed.

“GPO welcomes these new members of the DLC who have dedicated their careers to helping GPO provide the public with free access to Government information,” said Director Halpern. “I look forward to hearing these new members’ ideas about the future of the FDLP and value their overall contributions to the Council.”

These five new DLC members will serve from June 1, 2021 – May 31, 2024.

Aimée C. Quinn: Social Sciences Librarian at Central Washington University. Quinn brings nearly 35 years’ experience as an academic research librarian. Previously she worked as a depository coordinator at many universities. Throughout her career, Quinn has advocated for permanent public access to Government information in all forms. She has held numerous positions in Government Documents Round Table (GODORT). She currently Chairs the American Library Association (ALA) Government Information Subcommittee. She is the longest owner and moderator of GOVDOC-L, a national discussion forum for Government information.

Valerie Glenn: Head of the Map and Government Information Library and Regional Federal Depository Librarian at the University of Georgia (UGA). Glenn oversees public and technical services for maps and GIS, as well as Federal, state of Georgia, and international Government publications. She has more than 20 years of experience connecting users with Government information and managing collections in depository libraries of varying sizes, including at UGA, which is an ASERL Center of Excellence for Federal depository maps. Glenn is active in the ALA and Georgia Library Association and is currently a member of the HathiTrust Federal Documents Advisory Committee.

Richard Leiter: Director of the Schmid Law Library and Professor of Law at the University of Nebraska College of Law. Professor Leiter has worked in law libraries for nearly 40 years. He teaches Advanced Legal Research and has written widely on law librarianship and legal bibliography. His book, National Survey of State Laws, now in its 8th edition, is published both in print and online as a searchable database. Professor Leiter served as chair of the Government Relations Committee of the American Association of Law Libraries. He also has served as a judge for state and national competitions of We The People, a nationwide competition of high school students that involves debate on aspects of the United States Constitution.

Jen Kirk: Government Information Librarian at Utah State University (USU). At USU, Kirk coordinates the Government Information Program and connects Government documents to users across disciplines. As the Regional Coordinator for Utah and Nevada, she works with 15 depositories to provide public access to Government information. She serves as the Metrics Working Group Coordinator for the Technical Report Archive & Image Library (TRAIL) and promotes Government information through the Utah Library Association’s Government Documents Roundtable (ULA GODORT). Her research interests focus on practical applications of Government information librarianship, distribution of Government agency publications, and presidential libraries.

Allen Moye: Associate Dean for Information Technology and Library Services at DePaul College. Professor Moye holds appointments as Associate Professor of Law and Director of the Rinn Law Library. As Director of DePaul’s Law Library, Professor Moye is responsible for the financial management and quality of library services and research support. He coordinates with the legal writing faculty to provide legal research instruction to law students and teaches Advanced Legal Research and Introduction to American Law and Legal Systems. Professor Moye has close to 25 years’ of experience working in libraries. He is an active member of the American Library Association, American Association of Law Libraries, and more, and is a past president of the Mid-America Law Library Consortium.
