GPO Named One of America's Best
Employers for Veterans
WASHINGTON —The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) has been named to the
Forbes list of America’s Best Employers for Veterans 2022. GPO has a long-standing
history of employing veterans dating back to the Civil War and currently employs 640
veterans who make up 40 percent of the Agency’s workforce. For decades, the Agency has
hosted an annual Veterans Day Program in recognition of the service and sacrifice of our
GPO veteran teammates. This award comes after GPO was named one of the best employers in the Nation earlier this year.

“Veterans are part of the fabric of our Agency and its vision of an America Informed, starting
during the Civil War to the present day,” said GPO Director Hugh Nathanial Halpern.
“These men and women made tremendous sacrifices and continue to serve the Nation in
the work we do for Congress, the White House, and Federal agencies. On behalf of all of us
at GPO, I thank Forbes for this important recognition. Most of all, I thank our veterans for
their service.”
Forbes and Statista selected GPO as part of the America’s Best Employers for Veterans
2022 through an independent survey of roughly 7,000 U.S. veterans working part-time or
full-time for companies employing at least 1,000 people within the U.S.. The evaluation
was based on direct and indirect recommendations from employees who were asked to
rate their willingness to recommend their own employers to friends and family. Employee
evaluations also included other employers in their respective industries that stood out
either positively or negatively. Furthermore, participants were asked to give their opinion
on a series of statements related to their own employer, including atmosphere and
development, image, working conditions, salary and wage, workplace, diversity, and a set
of topics related specifically to the interests of veterans in the workplace.
